WHY I STARTED THIS
Because I'd built it, I could stop.
Then my daughter was born, and she had some health complications that asked me to step back from everything. So I did. Because I had been building for myself, I could stop. No negotiations. No income panic. I got to be fully present, for as long as she needed me there. I couldn't stop thinking about how many moms don't have that. Not just income from home. The actual freedom. The ability to say "I need to be present right now" and have the life you've built let you do exactly that. That's when The Startup Mom was born.
THIS ISN'T MY FIRST TIME
So I built something that was mine.
I wanted something creative that fit nap time instead of a 9-to-5. So I started an account, @good.bookery, using the system I'd built over ten years in marketing and design. In 90 days it grew from zero to 30,000 followers. I documented every bit of what worked. Now I'm doing it again in public as @itsmegkilgore, same playbook, new account, so you can watch it happen.
